Dawg Füd and Other Sundries

Dawg Füd and Other Sundries

Since last we saw each other, I moved to Tampa and started a dog food company, Cigar City Stogie’s.
While production at Cigar City Stogie’s has pretty much ceased, being that shop local does not mean pet store owners are shopping local. But that is of no matter now. I still continue to fill orders for loyal customers.
As we are in the midst of a pandemic I am going to show you how you can make a treat for your dogs yourself. Follow the bouncing ball of pictures and knowledge and you can pass some time and have a happy doggo.
Our first treat will be a four ingredient recipe for a doggie chicken dinner. In this batch I used:
10# of chicken breasts -If you have a meat grinder you can use chicken quarters, bones and all, but we will keep this simple.
2 large bunch’s of kale
1 large (29 oz) can of hominy, white or yellow
3 large sweet potatoes

That’s it.

You want to put this all in a large pot. I use a pressure cooker, but anything with a lid will work, it will just take longer to cook. Fill the pot about 1/3 of the way up the ingredients. Cover and cook until everything is cooked. A pressure cooker takes about 2 hours on full bore. If using a regular pot, 4 or 5 hours until the chicken is falling apart.

From here you can grind it or mash it up by hand (once it has cooled off some) and then jar it in a pressure cooker or freeze in ziplock bags you can pull out as needed.

Any questions, shoot me a message.

Another fun, and very easy treat if you have a food dehydrator. Go down to your local meat market, find the Latino section of town or Asian and find the store. Go to poultry section and pick up chicken feet. Throw them in the dehydrator for a couple days. Presto, instant shelf life friendly dog treats. And that’s one to grow on.
